It`s a Small (and kind) Blogging World
Last week I received these by delivery:
I don`t want to embarrass anyone so I won`t say who it was, but I had to acknowledge this totally kind and generous gesture of friendship. I hope to "pay it forward" so if anyone out there in Japan is missing a particular American product that you can`t get easily on Mainland Japan, please send me an email (or leave a comment and I won`t publish it) and tell me what it is. There are a lot of items for sale here that you can`t get in the rest of Japan so, if I can get it, I will send it to you as soon as possible. And, if by some chance you choose something not availiable here, I will send it from North America this summer! I await your requests.

I know who sent it and she is so awesome! I got a little surprise from her a few months ago and now I am also looking out for ways to do the same for someone else.
I have to say that I miss this part of American culture. Since living in Japan, I've taken it upon myself to do something "nice" for someone around me a few times and it's always been overwhelming for them and then weird afterwards because they feel they have to repay me to make things even. I've almost given up but then someone does something nice for me and it renews my faith in human kindness.
Pay It Forward!!!

I just think it is so cool that you would actually offer to do something nice for others! I try so hard these days to just exist on stuff I can get here in Japan but have to confess that my SIL is a lifesaver for sending me stuff from the U.S. that I just can't get here that I NEED. Like base makeup that matches my skin tone. She is French, living in
Arkansas so I think she understands exactly what living in a foreign country is like!
And Sarah--I hear you on the doing something nice here actually creating a burden on the reciever! Although, I have to admit that I use that system a bit myself now (i.e. if I go and do an hour of "free English" chit chat with someone--who blatantly only wants to get free eikaiwa from me--I have no bad feelings about showing up at the next chit chat session with a couple of school memos I need help deciphering in hand!)

Oh my gosh, you caught me off guard (in a good way though)! How sweet of you to post this Tigermama! I don't mind if you mention my name, at all. I'm just happy you and the kids enjoyed them! : )
And same as what you said. If anyone ever needs me to bring them back anything from the US. I am always willing to help! I really am! : )
You know what Tigermama, I am feeling really good about this little blogging family we all have going here! Good and kind group of ladies! : )

Sarah, yes the "reciprocal giving" in Japan can be a bit daunting, can`t it? Sometimes I do things anonymously to get around the weirdness. :)
Illahee, you don`t like rootbeer floats? How about just rootbeer?
CGG, quid pro quo is always a good idea when people are hitting you up for free English practice.
Gina, you know, I think everyone knew it was you before you commented.....and I really wanted to let it be known! :)

actually, i don't like root beer. i'm a weirdo.
but i did think of something i would like. it would cost extra, though, so you can totally send it COD: blue seal ice cream sandwiches. i thought there wasn't anything i need, but then i remembered that i can't get those. medea once sent me a box of them (via kuroneko. ice cream sandwiches and a hottie delivery man, what more does a girl want??) that she got at a store selling okinawa goodies. that was the nicest thing i got in japan. :D only if you can, though. and, you probably need my new address!

Illahee, I`ve got your new address and I will be sending some icecream sandwiches your way asap.
Jan, you know I`m going to totally hook you up!!!!
Chris, that`s not the cake. This one is from Mainland Japan. I dream about those chocolate coissants. You can only get them at Hakata station in Fukuoka. Thank Goodness my brother lives in Fukuoka!
