Snow!

It never snows in Okinawa but that doesn`t mean you can`t have a snowman shipped down from Hokkaido. In fact, this is exactly what happened one fine day in January this year. I went to pick up the kids at the bus stop downstairs and noticed there was an excited buzz going through the crowd of mothers and children. Then I saw this:

What could it be? You guessed it, a SNOWMAN! One of the children`s grandfather had sent it down from Hokkaido so that his grandson could "remember" Hokkaido.

I frequently feel like I live in another dimension, not just another country.

Thanks Illahee!

My camera will arrive tonight (COD...not sure how THAT is a birthday present but I`ll take it.) and I had set out the "monkey-mayonaise-holders" for the photo shoot tonight when I opened up Illahee`s blog and saw that she had already done the deed for me! Go on and look at the pictures. Aren`t they cute? Does anyone want me to bring them some this summer? What.....you have no use for teeny little mayonaise holders? How sad.

Describing Interesting Items

I`m still waiting for my new camera. Tigerpapa, I hope you are reading this post since you are the one who is supposed to be sending it.

I will describe to you in words the new items I purchased last week for the obento. One is a teeny little plastic carrot that comes with a toothpick-size squeegy-type thing. You insert the squeegy into the sauce (soy or whatever you`re using) and suck up a small amount to transfer into the little carrot. This is to hold the dipping sauce for various food items such as gyoza, roll sushi, and the like. The next item is by far the best thing I have come across in a long long time here in Japan. It is a teeny tiny little monkey face container that holds mayonaise (or other types of sauce that have a thicker consistency NOT conducive to being sucked up by the squeegy). It also has a teeny tiny spoon that fits perfectily under the face of the monkey. The spoon has a banana shaped handle that fits under the monkey`s head....just like a little bowtie. Now, can you all see it in your head? I thought not. I will post a picture as soon as I get my camera.

In other news, Tigergirl and Tigerboy finally got their Canadian passports! No more waiting in line at the American border to register for a travel visa when we come across to see the Grandparents. Woohoo! Tigergirl`s picture is really cute. Unfortunately, Tigerboy`s picture is not so good. He looks like a bi-racial sumo wrestler. I suppose that could be considered cute by some.

I`m off to bed. Tomorrow is a busy day of conversation lessons....hopefully I`ll come up with something good to talk about. Hey, maybe the monkey-face item would be a good topic. "Describe this item using as many adjectives as you possibly can"....hehehe.

The Post With No Pictures

I figure I could actually write something instead of relying on my pictures. It`s a bit daunting as I`m not very good at descriptions (hence the pictures).

Why I am Busy:

-I have 3 new jobs, 2 private students and another yochien (in addition to the Tigerkid`s yochien). One of the private students is HIGHLY motivated and takes two 2-hour lessons per week and also sends me a short email every evening. The other private student is an assistant professor of English at a university here on Okinawa and only needs help with her PHD (proofreading). Since she is writing at a very high level, I find I`m using long-lost brain cells when correcting her work! Phew.

-I only have one reason that I`m so busy....see above.

I thought I`d have more to say but actually I do not. Time to go eat cake!

Broken camera, Busy life

These two things have led to a small hiatus on my blog.

I leave you with the following video taken from a children`s show here in Japan. I actually recorded these guys on video 4 or 5 years ago to show my younger sister as I knew she would love it as much as I did. Now we can learn the correct words to the song for our next "performance"! :)
